Do your research! If you’re unsure about what to include and how to word your advertisement, go to MONSTER and search for similar advertisements for the IT or Linux job you’re looking to post. Check out your competitors listings in the area you’re seeking to recruit. This can be a great source of inspiration when it comes to creating your own attractive job post.
Include a brief statement about your organisation and the division/team for which you’re recruiting. Job seekers can identify better with the workplace if they know the context of the job on offer. Make your description professional, concise and exciting.
Structure your ad in a clear and concise way, laying out the critical information under clear subheadings (eg. roles and responsibilities, required education, and skills etc.). Don’t duplicate your job description, be brief.
Include information about salary and benefits. Research shows that job seekers are more likely to apply for jobs that specify the dollar amount they will be paid. Many have financial commitments and often have a dollar figure in mind that they will consider. Again, if you’re unsure about the market value of the work you’re offering, the online job seeking websites offer a source of information in this regard. Research Linux jobs or other comparable IT jobs on MONSTER and see what other organisations are willing to pay for the type of work you’re listing.
If the IT job you’re offering is not purely technical and has aspects of report writing and the like, stipulate that in addition to a resume, you require a cover letter addressing how the candidate meets the essential criteria of the job. This enables you to assess the candidate’s written style and written communication ability.
It’s also helpful to list a contact person’s name, email address and/or phone number in your job advertisement in case candidates have any questions regarding the role.
Once you’re comfortable that you’re ready, post your Linux job on LinuxCareer and start receiving information about quality Linux and Open Source candidates today.
